UPDATE ON RECENT AND FUTURE WORK WISE NORTH EAST EVENTS

There are a number of events planned in which Work Wise North East (WWNE) has been or will be directly or peripherally involved. These are:
- Team Valley Open Day - May 12 - the WWNE exhibition panels were erected and manned for three hours. Attendance at the Open Day event allowed Work Wise to make contact with a number of organisations that wished to find out more about the campaign.
- Northern TUC Annual Conference, took place on 23 May. WWNE supported the event with brochures and exhibition panels.
- BT South Tyneside small firms event at Bede's World - information packs were distributed to those attending to spread the word about the campaign in the region.
- Equality & Diversity Forum - Centre for Life - 8 July
- Newcastle University Steering Group - 21st July - The University reports that levels of staff satisfaction have increased considerably since it has adopted smarter working policies and the University has now formed its own steering group
- Advisers Networking Event - 6th September - A strong list of WWNE advisers has been appointed offering health & safety, IT and change management expertise to companies that wish to adopt smarter working practices but lack the experience to implement Two are Teesside based and one is in Durham with the rest in the Tyneside area.
Meeting to be held at NGI offices at Baltic Quays on Monday, 6th September at 3pm.
- Flexible Working Masterclass - series of three with first in September. Dickinson Dees is working with Work Wise and Susan Bilton, a Work Wise Adviser, to develop a questionnaire which will be sent out to a large database of organisations in the North East region, to establish their level of engagement with smarter working practices. The feedback from the research will provide the topics for the Master Class events. Dates to be confirmed.
- Work Wise Week - 20th-24th September - steering group partners are asked to provide case studies for use during the week.
- Engineering Employers Federation EEF is holding a seminar on Day 3 of Work Wise Week at which Simon Roberson, North East Chair and Tom Ross of the TUC will be delivering presentations on the theme of 'pro-active absence management'.
- Also during the week, Work Wise will take the lead in the Passionate about Employment supplement, focusing on the growth of home working and the benefits of having a better work-life balance.
- Transport Day also falls on Day 3 and WWNE will be supporting the national publicity on this via Phil Flaxton.
- 16th-20th September is also European Mobility Week, renamed by Nexus, Smarter Choices Week and each September it promotes smarter travel options. Having a similar agenda to Work Wise as such, there are a number of opportunities for collaboration over promotion. This year, there is a mini website for the week. It allows people to post messages such as "I want information about car sharing"
- National Work at Home Day - 24th September - we will be linking up with a number of people who run their businesses from home.
- Commute Smart Week - November 8th - 12th
- Fatal Friday - November 12th
